Review of Aliens in the Wild, Wild West (1999) by Robert H — 05 Mar 2014

It's cute and fun in a kids scifi made for tv movie special kinda way but there are also plenty of things that even as a youngin would have driving me batty.

I get the premise, and it works in this type of film where some mysterious object transports people back in time. I was even impressed with the fact that one of the kids from the future realises he's in the past and that people don't talk the same way etc. But that's also where the film doesn't work. Had they simply not made any reference to future stuff and the old wild west having no idea about modern slang etc. I'd have let it pass but after bringing it up... you can't then have the smart kid then do and say all sorts of things someone from the past would understand!

Luckily there's some nice physical FX work to make up for the lame acting and silly story being told otherwise there would be nothing redeeming about this film.

As it is, kids will likely get some enjoyment out of it but adults will probably find themselves groaning almost as much as if they were having to watch another Dora the Explorer video.
