Review of Aliens in the Attic (2009) by Leanne K — 12 Sep 2011
Their brains are old, mushy, and fried from bad 80s music.
A family rents a large vacation house for the summer and invites numerous members of their immediate family to join them. Shortly after arriving to the house, the children uncover an alien invasion attempt. The aliens have technology that allows them to control the minds of adults but their technology does not work on children. It is up to the children to save Earth from the alien invasion.
"Is there any job you two can't screw up?".
John Schultz, director of Like Mike, The Honeymooners, and Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, delivers Aliens in the Attic. My daughter and I came across this movie while flicking through the channels and decided to give it a shot based on its cool animation. I did think the special effects were really good and the characters were worth following. The cast delivers fairly mediocre performances and includes Ashley Tisdale, Austin Butler, Carter Jenkins, Doris Roberts, and Kevin Nealon.
"You have chosen instantaneous death.".
Overall, I found this film fairly entertaining. It did feel like a Nickelodeon picture with a larger budget. I thought the aliens and action sequences were well done and well delivered but numerous aspects of the film were extra cheesy. This is worth watching as a family and may even be worth adding to your DVD collection if your kids love it...but only if they absolutely love it.
"You've been punked.".
Grade: C+.
