Review of Aliens (1986) by Brandon W — 18 Feb 2016

So after Ridley Scott directed Alien, James Cameron shows up to direct and also write the sequel which based on his work, would take years to make which is somethings a good thing. So knowing that he directed The Terminator and Terminator: Judgement Day before this, it probably got a lot of people excited at that time, but wondered if James Cameron understand what the first film was like, and put the best parts of that film into this.

With that said, Aliens turned out to be a fantastic sequel. Sigourney Weaver is just as great in this as she was in Alien, in fact, she's better here. While the film doesn't necessarily have all memorable characters like the first one which in this one has more characters, it's forgiven by the fact that almost all of the characters are memorable and some of them have really cool introductions.

There's more humor here than the first movie, and it's really funny. Aliens doesn't entirely become an action film as it has good suspense and some effective scares. The computer effects still look impressive as of today, but the filmmakers focused more on the practical effects which I was glad to see and they look amazingly creative.

The ideas they put in there are really cool, and they put more ideas into this than the first movie. The acting from the other characters is really good, and swing Bill Paxton's character getting whiny at times, it's really funny.

The direction and script by James Cameron is very well done, the action scenes are exciting to watch, and the score by James Horner is catchy which in glad to know that consider that this is an action film, he compose mostly action scenes are exciting while putting in some creepy music to the suspense scenes.

Aliens is a masterpiece of a sequel that's faster paced which would make more people interested in this, and better than Alien.
