A cinematic masterpiece in every sense, "Aliens" is among the few films I consider perfect. James Cameron creates a rare sequel superior to the original. It can even be said that this sequel is even more iconic than the first and that is saying a lot. This is the film that changed the game of sci-fi films and one fondly referred to as among cinema's greatest treasures.

The visuals and cinematography are terrific. Every scene is beautifully shot and the Aliens themselves are impressively created. Even today the film would still hold up in the visuals department; they do not film dated at all. As for the story itself, the pacing is gut-wrenchingly superb. Each scene is important to the development of both the plot and the characters. Instead of being a thrilling horror film like the original, this sequel opts to be instead an action sci-fi film, one that has become as iconic as the rest of James Cameron's films. The action scenes themselves are masterfully executed. The scenes are intense and terrifying. The film keeps that sense of claustrophobia that the original has but places guns in it. The characters are instantly recognizable. From the badass Ellen Ripley to the innocent Newt to the awesome Cpl. Hicks to the slimy and conniving Burke, each character is memorable. Ellen herself completes her transformation from helpless crew member to skilled soldier. The Aliens themselves are terrifyingly efficient and brutal. Whereas any other film would downplay a single Alien's threat, a single Alien in the film is still a force to be reckoned with which complements the idea of an army of them well.

Overall the film is iconic. The film earns its spot among the pantheon of greatest films ever made and with a good reason: its simply awesome, a true cinematic masterpiece.
