Review of Aliens (1986) by Mark H — 17 Jan 2015
It's always fun to see a sequel do justice to the original, and even better when it surpasses. Aliens is an example of the latter. This movie is very suspenseful and the action scenes are never boring.
Its green screen tech looks dated at times but the practical effects are gorgeous. However, there are a few inconsistencies that distract the audience. For instance: the aliens are surprisingly weak compared to the ones in the first movie, and given the close range many of these aliens are killed at their blood doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.
There are a few cliches that also take a bit away from the movie, but James Cameron does a very good job of keeping the dilemmas fresh instead of making the audience shake their head at something they've seen dozens of times before.
Performances are strong even from the child actor, who's demographic is typically sub-par. Over all, Aliens is great from the first act to the last minutes.
