I don't mind skipping this particular movie when watching the Aliens set of movies. To me, it added nothing from seeing the first movie. The Aliens themselves seemed easier to defeat, and less scary in this movie.
In the first movie you feel like there is an intelligent foe that out matches humans in almost every way. In this movie fighting the aliens seems more like fighting insects. Impressive physically, but nothing an well armed human even with relatively low intelligence can't defeat.
