Review of Aliens (1986) by Drake S — 26 Aug 2015
Even better than the first one, while the first one was an awesome horror movie, this one is an awesome action movie with horror elements. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ellen Ripley, and one again gives a great performance, being collective and motherly in one scene, and than being stern and kick-ass in the next.
Waking up after 57 years in cryo sleep, Ripley is suffering from not only post traumatic stress disorder, but also has to come to terms with the death of her daughter, who was only 10 when her mother left.
Ellen has also learned that the company has started a colony on LV-426 and it has gone missing. So with the help of a very memorable group of marines, including an android named bishop, second in command Hicks, the wise-cracker Hudson, and many more, they set out to find what happened.
As they search the colony, they come across a little girl named Newt, who's family was killed by the xenomorphs. This gives Ripley a second chance at being a mother as the two form a strong bond with each other.
The memorable characters and chemistry they share are two major highlights of Aliens, but the thing that really steals the show are the Aliens themselves. In the first film, Alien, Ridley Scott gave us one of the most unique and terrifying creatures in movie history; showing that even one is a force to be reckoned with.
In Aliens, James Cameron shows us what a whole army of these things is capable of, we also get to see that xenomorphs aren't just mindless killing machines, they have a form of intelligence and a hierarchy of sorts; this makes them even scarier.
We also find out that the facehugger eggs are laid by an Alien Queen, which is one of the greatest practical effects ever made, and gives us one of the most iconic battles in Sci-Fi history when Ripley dawns the power loader and battles the overgrown bug.
If your into Sci-Fi, action, and suspense I highly recommend that you check out Aliens.
