Review of Alien³ (1992) by Luca Maria M — 27 Dec 2015

In an horror movie, the less you show the scarier it is. Usually, these words of wisdom are followed by some reference to Alien. One of the scariest movie ever, but we manage to actually see the creature for a bunch of minutes (summing up all scenes in the movie).

This because it refers to ancestral fear of being hunted by something you can't see and that wants to, well, eat you. Like Ridley Scott's Blade Runner is part sci fi and part noir, Alien is part horror and part sci fi, but forget the bright and polished starships of Star Wars: the Nostromo shares the same disturbing look with Giger's nightmarish artworks, it looks more like a dark medieval fortress than a futuristic starship, at the point that the crew members become prisoners of it, actually.
