Review of Alien³ (1992) by Zachary M — 04 Jul 2016
"If there is a psycho killer in the house with you why not just get out of the house?".
Everyone who has ever seen a horror movie has found themselves asking this question eventually. This movie answers that question very simply. In space, there is no outside. Just you, the house, and killer. Replace a masked killer with an alreature and you've got one of the most effective horror movies of all time. Not only that, but it takes a premise that is usually viewed wit awe and wonder, the concept of space travel, and treats it like it's nothing special a all. Everything looks dirty, old, and broken in this movie. Like what you'd expect the universe to look like after an interstellar depression. Nothing about it is clean, fun, or wondrous. And yet I don't think it could be told any other way.
The film that launched a franchise and changed story Sci-Fi forever, Alien is just as likely to cause nightmares today as it first did almost forty years ago.
