Review of Alien vs. Ninja (2010) by Jy S — 22 Oct 2010
Seiji Chiba shows that little substance and a small budget can still result in a satisfying picture.Alien vs. Ninja. The plot is in the title and there isn't much more to it than that. The 80+ minutes of run time include ninjas, aliens, action, gore, and senseless humor to top it all off.
The CG effects aren't anywhere near superb, but that is acceptable in this picture. The aliens are obviously people in suits. Once again, that is adequate for this film.Aliens fighting ninjas. That means there is action.
The ninja swordplay is fast and furious with excellent choreography and there is a sufficient amount of it. Some other highlights from the action include an alien using a sword, a gun, and even flying around like an out of control dragon.
Masanori Mimoto is a fitting lead as the ninja that never backs down from a fight. Mika Hijii is a breath of fresh air as the lone female in a film full of male ninjas and aliens. Of course, she becomes the target of many sexual jokes.
Donpei Tsuchihira's character looks to be the comic relief, but ends up just as annoying as he is funny.Alien vs Ninja is in no way a classic gem; however, by the ending it becomes a delectable Japanese low budget science fiction action comedy.
