Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Troy F — 06 Jun 2012
What the hell, Joss! Such a disappointment. Although apparently he claims it was all "done wrong": line delivery, casting, set design, score, etc. But even if you take all that stuff out, you're still left with a horrible plot, and a series that should have ended at 3 films.
This was my first Jean-Pierre Jeunet and it did not inspire confidence, but I hear Amelie is amazing, so perhaps I'll give him another shot.I found the 1st half hour of the movie to be pretty decent, since it establishes a neat scenario and expands the lore.
But once they introduced everyone and everything, it's as if the movie literally stops developing. Then it just floats along, and neither you, nor the actors care what happens next. It's also way more ridiculous, unrealistic, and poorly acted, compared to the last 3 films.
O, and I guess calling Fury 161 Fury 16 is ok now haha. Also, the special effects seemed overdone and fake. I'm pretty sure the 1st 3 films mostly used people in alien suits, but this one is generally used cgi aliens.
Most of the scenes I found myself rolling my eyes, sighing, or saying "riiiiight". If I ever go back to this movie, it will be to check out the special edition version just to see what they added or changed, not cuz I enjoyed it.
