Review of Alien Resurrection (1997) by Christine D — 09 Apr 2015
An embarrassingly bad movie. Far worse than the very underrated Alien 3.
What kind of genre was this again?
It wasn't a thriller or horror because I wasn't scared, it wasn't an action because I was bored to tears, it wasn't a romantic movie unless you count that disturbing Lesbian innuendo scene with Ripley and Cal and that ridiculous scene with the Doctor making weird facial expressions and putting his lips centimeters away against the glass containing a Xeno.
The genre I would most like to fit this one in would be a comedy. Because it made me laugh.
The pirates were all characters who were poorly fleshed out rip-offs of the Marines from the second movie.
The Ripley clone comes off as a more annoying character than one to support.
The plot to this movie is nonsensical and is more spin-off worthy then ever being part of the franchise as a whole. If this movie was never to created, there would be no difference made to the Alien universe whatsoever.
This movie tries to take itself seriously but when you see a pirate deliberately shoot a bullet that ricochets constantly onto the walls and into a man's head, you can do nothing but sigh after such a great license has fallen from grace.
Not only did this movie EVER have to be made, it downgraded the franchise as a whole and is scene as the outcast of a group of kids that everybody ignores.
Alien Resurrection is the kind of movie that people would prefer to forget about. Too bad I can't.
Despite having SOME good parts in the movie, there really isn't anything to see here.
