Review of Alien Nation (1988) by Ola G — 12 Oct 2008
Just saw "Alien Nation" again. I can not believe that 20 years has passed, but the fact is that this was a bit more exciting in 1988... Still, "Alien Nation" is an ok sci fi cop movie for sure, but it lacks one or two things here and there.
An alien civilisation has been intergrated to the human society on earth, after some years in quarantine. Not everyone is happy about this, for example cop veteran Matthew Sykes (James Caan). After his partner is killed in a shootout with two alien newcomers, he eventually teams up with the alien newcomer police detective Sam Francisco (Mandy Patinkin) to investigate the killing. The trail leads further down into the alien newcomer world and to the respected alien newcomer leader William Harcourt (Terence Stamp).
"Alien Nation" has a twist of racism and offers an interesting insight into how it might be to live side by side with an alien civilization. As said, it is not that bad, but I am not making the wave despite James Caans participation.
