Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Loveeland — 19 May 2017
Alien: Covenant was a little better than Prometheus just because it wasn't as difficult to watch (no live abortion scenes that make you want to puke). Other than that, it wasn't very good by any means.
The acting, while not corny, was not memorable for any of the characters other than Danny McBride successfully escaping his stereotypical comedy role. The story was incredibly sloppy and relied on characters that were nowhere near qualified for the task they set out to do, and therefore made very poor leadership decisions allowing for things to go south for the crew and force the plot to unfold as it does.
While not quite as graphic as Prometheus in my opinion, it is still incredibly gruesome, almost at a level that is off-putting (like Prometheus), however I know some people like that so that did not influence my rating.
The CGI aliens at times looked very good, then at times looked very fake. I would expect that in this day and age that would be the one thing a large budget film such as this would get right. If you loved Prometheus then you'll probably enjoy this film, however if you are more of a fan of the original series like me, this movie doesn't hold a candle.
