Alien Covenant: "Meh" at best - very disappointing. (Spoilers Ahead).

As background, I LOVE Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus and I do like Alien Resurrection.

This movie was a huge disappointment.

The only thing we "learn" following Prometheus is that after Elizabeth Shaw and the mangled android David escape at the end of Prometheus, that during their journey to find their possible creators, the world of the engineers, that 1) Elizabeth fully repairs David, that 2) when they arrive to the new planet, before learning anything about the people there or making any contact at all, David carpet bombs their entire race killing them all, that 3) David tortures and does experiments on Elizabeth and that 4) Elizabeth sent a transmission out to space of her singing Country Road by John Denver before she finally dies from David's torture.

The rest of the movie is a "story" of a colonization mission of people (Crew of about a dozen and then 2000 colonists that spend the entire movie in hypersleep) that pick up the distress signal, crew checks it out, get stuck on this planet, get infected by xenomorphs, "rescued" by David, before they become victims of his torturous experiments, only two of the crew survive to make it back to the colonization ship and then at the very end, after the iconic, dramatic and over played "getting the last xenomorph off of the ship scene", just as the heroine is going into hypersleep in a seeming happy ending do we find out that their android is actually David in disguise. He then plants the seed to infect all 2000 colonists in what appears to be a desparate tie in to another disappointing installment of this overplayed franchise. The movie is filed with creepy bloody gore and disturbing horror blah and as a horror movie would be mildly entertaining except for the massive disappointment of wasting an opportunity to tell a good story for a franchise that is so loved.

I do not recommend this movie.
