Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Martinglake — 18 May 2017
Amature hour. A film with a lot of money. No script and no direction. Was this written on a napkin by someone that read the back of a alien dvd box? What's more it cuts the masterpiece Prometheus adrift and makes both films entirely pointless. Neither sequels prequels to each other or the rest of the alien films. This is more fitting in th alien v predator franchise where 'anything can happen at any time'. This film needs rebooting with whatever the original script was. The studio script needs to be incinerated. You can see with Scots body language he is not happy with this garbage. If you like national geographic you might like the first half hour for the nature shots.
This film is quite literally a slap in the face to people that have a IQ and attention span of sufficient size to follow the Prometheus story and enjoy a journey into the alien universe rather than just seeing aliens over and over again for no reason and with 5 second gestation periods because the film needs to be under 2 hours. If this was AVP, guardians of the galaxy or a comic book movie I'd give it a 5....but this is serious scifi where detail matters for immersion. I'd say blame the script - but Scot should never have accepted it in this state.
