Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Harry W — 21 May 2017
Creepy, messed up, and terrifying in the best way possible, Alien: Covenant manages to successfully leap over the high bar set by Prometheus, even if it can't quite reach the much higher bar set by the first two films.
The entire cast give great performances, and Michael Fassbender works double duty to give two equally Oscar-worthy performances as David and Walter. Ridley Scott's direction has aged like fine wine, and the script is expertly written.
The story takes some thematic risks, especially the homoerotic scenes between David and Walter, but I give it props for taking those risks rather than hold them against it. The new alien designs are welcome additions to the franchise, and the ending has me very excited for what lies ahead.
