Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Launce B — 21 May 2017
Have been a fan of the original Alien(s) movies with Sigourney Weaver and most recently Promethus, I can honestly say I was slightly disappointed in this movie. The acting and the cinematography was spot on, however the plot is in a much needed revamp.
I would have to assume that in the future with advanced A.I. and humanoid robotics that the first law or objective of code hard wired into the synthetic would be to preserve and protect human life. ( reminiscinant of iRobot) Unfortunately due to this huge oversight the movie becomes more of a robot becoming self aware to the point where humans don't deserve their existence and must be terminated for the greater good! Sounds way too familiar with sci-fi flicks and frankly I expected much more from a usually fresh and exciting franchise.
Promethus is my favorite sci-fi movie and I've watched it at least a dozen times and even purchased it in 3D blu ray, and would give it 5 out 5 stars, this one is generous at 3 stars.
