Review of Alien: Covenant (2017) by Vincent L — 12 Jun 2017
Went to see it last friday, to be honest more because the rest that was playing was worse than anything else. To me this franchise has gone down hill since its fourth movie, yes, that;s right, I consider the much hated Fincher's part three a wonderful movie. Jeunet should have been kept a few thousands miles away from any Alien movie as he completely lacks the sensibilities even for this genre (and I adore his French movies).
Promotheus had an intriguing premisse and some beautiful imagery, but fell on its face because of a bad plot, revealing bad answers to mysteries that should have been left unanswered in the first place, underlined by bloodless acting by the cast with a minor standout by Fassbender, but he coudln't save that movie.
In Covenant it becomes clear Scott hasn't learned from the mistakes of Prometheus and continues on this disastrous path, compounding it by inserting weak and pointless tropes that worked in the first and even second movies, but completely fall flat in this effort.
I didn't get the alien spacecraft logic: When the Covenant crew gets to the planet they find the wreck but in a flash back we see david arrive in a nice orderly fashion and unleash the creature's well, whatever you call it.
The acting in this movie is even worse than in Prometheus and you don't care what happens to the crew, a deadly mistake.
The two stars are again, as with Prometheus, for the beautiful cinematography and special effects, but please no more.
Will you stop, Ridly?
