Review of Alien Abduction (2014) by Al H — 05 Aug 2014
This movie really had its heart in the right place. Found footage movies are now a dime a dozen so any time I watch one and make it through that says something I guess. The characters are real and likable enough, there's just to much time plodding alone in the dark and hiding with a shaky camera or dark screen.
Yes it's creepy when the aliens do show up and there are some tense moments. There's just not much plot wrapped around it. Sometimes less is more but not in this case. One thing I enjoyed was the reason for having the camera.
So many found footage movies leave you wondering why not turn the camera off and run? The fact that it's an 11 year old autistic child and it soothes him had me sold. It's hard to watch at all if it's a ridiculous notion that they even had the camera, but in this case it worked.
Very competent film making that could have used more plot, more aliens, and less running.
