Review of Alien (1979) by Ethan R — 19 Aug 2013
The one and only. The film that opened my eyes (when they weren't squeezed shut behind a pillow in sickly fear) to the wonderment of cinema.
Over 25 years after release it's still the champion of sci-fi horror, a masterful tale of terror and the frailties of humanity by way of cybersexual wang symbolism. The amount of tropes it mastered or (more likely) birthed are beyond counting and so deeply pervasive within the cultural zeitgeist that it's difficult to envisage a world without Alien.
Both the literal and figurative Grandaddy of it's genre and cine-fantastic nightmare beasties everywhere.
