Review of Alien (1979) by Mark James A — 03 Nov 2013
. . .an extraordinarily enthralling and suspenseful sci-fi horror picture. Like Jaws, it builds tension through waiting. Even though reprehensible gore is toned down, it still is effective. The film also has realistic characters with enough character development and magnificently gloomy set pieces building an apropos tone throughout.
This sci-fi thriller is uniquely built on such raw form of terror felt more deeply in its suspension in dimness, silence and slow-burn pacing. It does not scare by showing off its creature feature all the time. The film wants us to imagine for more sheer terror. Aside from the suspense, it exhibits brilliance in its script, performances and technical aspect. A Great Movie.
