Review of Alien (1979) by Brandon M — 30 Jul 2014
Basic: It's about a space crew, who are living in a spacecraft called the Nostromo. They're planning to go back home, but then they receive a stress call of an unknown planet. They go down investigate, and something goes wrong. Then, in the last hour of the film, it focuses on the Nostromo's crew, who are facing an alien, that's on their spacecraft.
What's the deal: I don't think there was ever a film I just got so scared, that I want to walk out, take a breather, and come back. Truly, that chest burst scene does make it one of my favorite scariest moments I've seen, but I also heard that a lot of people got sick from that scene. Of course, I do know why a lot of people got sick from that scene, and I don't want to explain it as well. The thing with Alien was that it has a simple idea, and then creates something unique and eerie. The direction by Ridley Scott is amazing. The writing is perfectly fine, and the cast does a solid job, but the art direction, that was another thing I really like about this film. Yes, it does have some similarities to 2001, and Star Wars, but I was still amused with it, and the setting of the space jockey does carry enough eerie texture around the film. The alien design by H.R. Giger was amazing and creepy at the same time. Like Jaws, not showing the monster, until the very end of the film.
My full opinion: Alien is a science-fiction horror that's fill with imagination, great designs, and most likely the best film by Ridley Scott. One of my top five favorite films. 10/10.
