Review of Alien (1979) by Robert S — 24 Jun 2015
Sheer perfection in nearly every way imaginable. Everything from its score, its pacing, and the acting to its concepts, its incredible sense of design (its highpoint) and its sense of timelessness are so deliberate and perfectly executed that its no surprise as to why it has stood the test of time so well, an aspect rare in both genres Alien belongs to.
Those that tout Alien as just a gross-out horror don't realize exactly how influential of a film it has become, and not only for its astounding visuals. Alien is in a league of its own and became an instant trendsetter for how female characters can be done in a genre known for its shallow portrayals of women. This coupled with all the latent thematic material bring it to a level instantly above your run-of-the-mill sci-fi or horror film. The fact that Alien is still being discussed after nearly 4 decades shows its importance and longevity.
Secondly, younger filmgoers that deem it boring don't know what the hell they're talking about. Get a bigger attention span and stick to the superhero drivel if you can't keep up.
