Review of Alien (1979) by Mandela W — 06 Mar 2016
Finally I got the opportunity to check out Alien. I had known about these original films for years and finally I saw the original flick and I must say I was impressed.
This was really like a horror film but set in space. Ridley definitely changed the game by merging two genres here in a unique picture for 1979. ridley also manage to direct this in a fashion that wasn't clichéd at all. The deaths in this film were really unpredictable and had you at the edge of your seats. And I must say That xenomorph is scary in high definition.
Superb editing, The production design was really well put together and the cinematography was incredible, tremendous camera work. Nicely directed ending too.
Acting for the most part was poor except from Sigourney weaver and ian holm. However it didn't effect the film that much. signourney weaver's ripley was literally the smartest character in the film. Weaver captured this really smart but scared crew member who barely survived a horrific encounter in space. Ian holm was superb as Ash. Him and Michael Fassbender really nailed these android roles so well. He played such an important role, such a well written character.
That scene with the alien ripping out of john hurts body was hella gruesome and actually made me jump a little.
Alien is superbly well made film that is great for a scary Friday night in your living room.
