Review of Alien (1979) by John K — 16 Apr 2014
This movie brings back fond, yet bone-chillingly horrifying memories of my earlier childhood. I first experienced Alien at a friend's house. It was late and we decided to pop in a movie and one of the guys suggested Alien.
None of us had seen it, given it was released thirty years prior. One note if you show this to five thirteen year old boys in absolute darkness in the dead of night is to just leave some form of light on.
When Dallas was climbing through the vent and it was pitch black, I somehow felt transported into the duct with him and I was totally mortified. Yet, watching it now, I still feel most of the feat of the unknown which I experienced then.
However, the first half hour felt slow. Yet, those gripes are forgiven in the absolute horror classic that follows once Kane is annihilated at dinner. The film certainly stands the test of time and is a must-watch at almost any teenage boy sleepover or late-night Halloween party.
A monster movie classic and Ridley Scott's true masterpiece.
