Review of Alien (1979) by Jason M — 13 Feb 2016
Probably one of the greatest science fiction horrors of all time. This launched the franchise. It was unique when it came out in 1979. The suspense was unparalleled. It must be respected for setting a foundation for the countless copycat techniques and other contributions made to subsequent action-suspense-horror flicks, including John Carpenter's The Thing.
Sequels may have been made on a greater budget, but Alien is perfect in its simplicity. It is also notable for setting the standard for the strong female lead established by Sigourney Weaver.
