Review of Alien (1979) by Avery M — 20 Aug 2017
While simple in concept, Alien represents a perfection of the slow-burn horror genre. Alien uses the viewers fear of the unknown to create dreadful, atmospheric, and tense horror that won't be forgotten for decades to come.
In addition to a flawlessly executed concept and a spectacular performance from the entire cast (Weaver being a clear standout), Alien nonchalantly boasts one of the most realistic and believable sets ever committed to film. The Nostromo looks, and feels, like a real working spaceship, right down to the 1970's CRT screens and buttons for an unlimited number of imaginary functions.
Because of the use of practical effects, dense atmosphere, spectacular sets, acting performances, and superb dialogue, Alien simply refuses to age. This is a must-see film for anyone who is not only a fan of science-fiction or horror, but anyone who is a fan of quality film.
