Review of Alien (1979) by Kevin Y — 18 Nov 2013
Although the passing of time has determined that "Alien" is a classic and substantial film I'm not entirely on board. Not to say that the film is without value but, much like it's modern prequel "Prometheus", it suffers for the idiotic, blundering behavior of the characters which serve only to irritate and take the audience out of their suspended disbelief.
No scientists would EVER be stupid enough to allow themselves to be picked off one-by-one Agatha Christie style, they would formulate a plan and create a search party in larger groups. The best weapons they have on board are cattle prods and flamethrowers? And how many cheap 'cat jumping out at the camera' scares are allowed in one film? No thanks.
