Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) by Matt L — 30 May 2016
I liked the first Alice in Wonderland movie and had high hopes for this sequel. In my opinion, this movie was pretty horrible in all respects. Though some of the special effects were interesting at times, the storyline was lacking and the plot was obtrusive.
Of the actors, Depp I felt, was the most blame-worthy for this debacle. Depp in his lispy, garbled delivery of the Mad Hatter's dialogue was generally unintelligible and quite unlikeable from my perspective.
In the 2010 movie, I really thought that the Alice character was played quite well by the actress and did not find Depp's performance to be off-putting at all. In this sequel, Alice, played by the same actress, does not come off as likeable as she did in the 2010 movie and Depp's antics as the Mad Hatter appeared as though they were inserted in the movie just for the sake of annoyance.
