Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) by Brent A — 03 Jun 2016
Just back from "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Keep in mind that the "Alice" stories are my favorite, all the way back from my childhood. While the Disney's 50's animated adaptation remains my favorite adaptation, I enjoyed the most recent live-action adaptation with Depp as the Mad Hatter well enough.
That being said, while the visuals are certainly impressive for this film, the story is a bit unsatisfying and the humor often falls flat. The characters aren't quite as engaging as they should be, with the possibility of Helena Bonham Carter, whose weirdness as the Red Queen still is amusing.
I didn't hate it, but I think Disney can be done with the live-action "Alice" adaptations now. I'll go back to watching the 50's animated classic, thank you very much. :) RT: 3/5 stars, IMDB: 6/10.
