Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) by Spencer K — 05 Jun 2016

I am in the minority it seems like of people who actually liked Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland. Even with that, I felt a sequel was unnecessary. I went into this will little to no expectations and I walked out of it liking it more than I was expecting too.

James Bobin directs here and it's frantic and chaotic. Alice travels to these different time periods in Wonderland's past and she's never there at any location long enough for me to really get invested in that specific area she's at.

Sacha Baron Cohen stole every scene he was in playing the character as Time and I thought he was actually an interesting character that Cohen brought his usual flair, too and it worked with this character.

Mia Wasikowska is fine again as Alice, she's nothing extraordinary, but she gives the right amount to the character and it works. Helena Bonham Carter, in my opinion is still the best thing about these movies.

she may yell a lot, but she looks like the one who is having the most fun and the one who's most invested in her character. Anne Hathaway was pretty bland as the White Queen, though. she moves her hands in this weird way everywhere she goes and she doesn't serve much of a purpose in the movie.

it feels like she's just there to get her paycheck and leave. Johnny Depp is playing typical Johnny Depp, again. lots of makeup, an extravagant wig, and crazy costumes. you could argue that needs to because it's "Wonderland" and all, but I just didn't feel like he was trying that hard.

He's played basically the same character for the past 5-10 years and the Mad Hatter is no exception to that. I didn't hate this movie as much as I thought, but it's still not a great film.

I had fun with it and I was entertained and there was some aspects I did like about it, albeit fun, but I can't help but feel it's all really unnecessary.
