Alice in Wonderland polarized audiences in 2012, I felt the visuals were awesome but the movie lacked any character drive or motivation (much like the book). But I felt the second one was a vast improvement.
Alice finally has clear goals in this movie, not just wandering from set piece to set piece. Sacha Baron Cohen is a nice addition to the cast, and it manages to have an emotional core and explore some of the older characters backstories.
(including the never-ending tea party). Alice Through the Looking Glass is a solid movie for me.
