Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) by Justin B — 14 Jan 2017
I wasn't a big fan of the first film because I hadn't realized it was a new story, rather than a retelling of the original book. Coming into this film without that preexisting notion made this experience highly enjoyable.
The world of Underland is well worth another look and the story, while a tad single minded, works well. All the characters fit nicely, but surely the best creation of this film is Cohen's Time and his castle full of minions. Such great creative imagination went into every moment he was on screen.
If the film lacks anywhere it's in its over-explanation of how Underland, or rather time, works. Wonderland was always a world where the impossible is possible for no reason at all and it did itself somewhat of a disservice to analyse the mechanics of time travel. But it was a minor issue.
I'm glad I gave this one a looksee and could see myself visiting Underland once more if they so choose!
