Review of Alice in Wonderland (2010) by R W — 13 Jan 2015
There was a time when a new Tim Burton movie came out, I was going to the theater to see it. Those days seem to have passed, as his work seems less and less unique and a little more predictable. He still doesn't make standard movies, but he has fallen into a pattern, and I don't have the same drive to go see his work as I once did.
I waited two years before I actually saw this one. While Burton's style somewhat suits Wonderland, the movie never takes off. It is dull, and I barely cared to follow what was going on. It is less of a straight adaptation of the novel, as much as it is sort of like an "Alice in Wonderland" version of "Hook".
Alice returns to Wonderland years after last leaving it, doesn't remember being there, and has to learn to be her again while fighting off the enemy. At one point the caterpillar says exactly what this movie should've been called "Almost Alice".
..the movie just never really captivated me. Shame.
