Review of Alice in Wonderland (1951) by Casper B — 08 Jan 2012
I have a soft spot for things that make absolutely no sense and when you are looking for something insane, Alice in Wonderland is the first place to go. This Disney story based on a series of books is about a young girl named Alice who enters into a world of madness and while interested at first, soon wishes to return home (I can't imagine why ^^). The design of Wonderland is very interesting and I really liked the attention to detail, but what I didn't like was the more childish elements that were mostly thrown at me at the start of the movie (like two guys constantly yelling at each other and making cartoon sound effects). This got fixed later on though and most of the movie was quite interesting.
Another minor complaint is that the voice-actor for Alice is not really that great, she sounds older than she should be and the politeness comes over as rather forced. This is a bit disappointing because the dialogue is pretty well written and the rest of the cast is putting up a pretty good performance.
A recommendation for this movie is very easy: If you are a child or if you have one then you should definitely get this for them because the jokes are directed more towards them then to an older audience. If you don't have children and you are over the age of twelve, then this will likely not appeal to you unless you're a bit like me.
