Review of Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) by David D — 23 Mar 2011
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore is, by an unimaginably immense margin, the most complex, personal, and most developed film in terms of both narrative and character in Martin Scorsese's entire repertoire.
It is also, for these reasons and more, the greatest film in his repertoire, and that includes Goodfellas, The Departed, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, or whatever other Scorsese film you wish you align yourself with.
If you were raised by a struggling, single mother, you not only should see this film, but you owe it to your mother and yourself to see this film.
