I'm not just trying to be contrary, but I think the only thing that didn't quite work for me here had to do with Scorsese's direction. I have two unresolved questions: are excessive/unmotivated camera movement and flourishes a distraction, and would it necessarily have been an improvement to shoot this same material in a more conventional style? I'm not sure yet on either count.
