Review of Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) by Robert A — 15 Feb 2012
Ellen Burstyn plays Alice, a housewife whose life goes into upheaval when her husband dies. Taking to the road with her precocious son, Alice undergoes a succession of menial yet eye opening encounters before she finds herself capable of finding herself.
Martin Scorsese's direction highlights Burstyn's acting chops, especially during her amusing mother/son interactions. While not a profound film, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore contains a scattering of interesting tidbits for an open-minded movie lover.
