Review of Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) by Ismael D — 23 Apr 2013
Whilst Who's That Knocking at My Door and Mean Streets both have flashes of brilliance, Martin Scorsese first fully realised his true ability with this comedy-drama which features an Oscar-winning Ellen Burstyn as a recently widowed housewife who travels across the Southwest of America in search of a new and better life and possible success as a singer.
It's a funny and moving film that has aged well and it showed early on that Scorsese is about more than just gangster films.
