Review of Ali (2012) by Gemma L — 22 Mar 2008
OK. There were moments and parts of this movie that deeply moved me. e.g. the Malcolm X section. But the ending? They cut it off abruptly. And not a single video clip of Ali himself? It had a sense of the unreal at the end.
The African portion of the movie did not make it. They try halfheartedly to convey a sense of how he was touched and changed by the Africa trip but they botch it, mostly. And in the middle of botching, the movie ends.
No resolution. They should have tried to convey some sense of what Ali means in America today ... except that means talking about Sunni Islam and his place in the Muslim world etc. Right.
