Review of Ali (2001) by Corey D — 03 Aug 2008
An ambitious effort from Michael Mann that unfortunately gets overwhelmed by the subject matter. All the fight scenes are fantastic and Will Smith gives a great performance (but Denzel still would have done it better 15 years ago).
Jamie Foxx and Jon Voight are both remarkable in their roles. So many other characters are just 1 dimensional. I also HATE the 10 minute music interludes that occur about 6 or 7 times during the film.
In a film about Muhammad Ali, I do not need to see several minutes dedicated to Sam Cooke performances.
