Review of Ali (2001) by Abul H — 26 Sep 2009
Smith doesn't quite convince being Ali, he just doesn't have the ability to play such a great Icon. the film itself is pretty good, although focuses much more on Ali's life up until he regains the World Heavyweight title the first time. The Rumble in the jungle could have been a lot more interesting if like in real life Ali took to the streets, laughed and joked with the locals, instead concentrating on something more ambiguous as hardships in Zaire. Didn't feel that was really necessary.
Worth a watch for Ali and Smith fans and perhaps boxing fans, although Smith's attempts at looking as quick, powerful and charismatic as Ali himself falls well short of that.
