Review of Alfie (2004) by Erik P — 10 Jan 2010
The very low end of films made simply in an attempt to profit from a hot actor/actress.
Of course, some films shouldn't be remade. The reasons vary from the story not being worthy of film to the original doing as much with the story as can be done. In this case, it's a little of both. The original is not a film in need of any added visual, sound effects, or acting improvements, so the only way this could possibly be better is if it added some insight that goes beyond the original, something like a sequel, which it does not. When Hollywood gets criticized, it's films like this that cause it. Sometimes, nothing at all is better. And nothing is definitely better in this case.
