Review of Alfie (1966) by John E — 28 Feb 2009
Alfie was a long film that seemed to resemble a comedy. The film was more of a drama it seemed and Jude Law (Cold Mountain) was alright as the lead character. The script was well done but it just seemed to miss the zing that would make it a good comedy.
Some of the subject matters at hand were also not very funny, but the main character did show some growth throughout the film so it didn't seem like such a lost cause. The surrounding cast was like Law?s, average at best.
The small monologues that plague the film were not necessary as it could have been told in the form of dialogue instead. The direction was rather poor at times and seems like some scenes were just slapped together.
Basically, you?re better off not renting this question mark of a comedy, unless it is the original..
