Review of Alexander (2004) by Colette K — 30 Jan 2011
I watch the director's cut and loved every moment of it. The acting was very well done and the directing was. I particularly enjoyed Angelina Jolie's take on Alexander's mother. She was very well rounded with her internalized characterization.
Colin Farrell also did an outstanding job as portraying what Alexander The Great might have been like. The action in this movie is balanced out with a good dramatic scenes between various characters. The flashbacks added a unique perspective to the overall plot of the movie.
I also liked how the movie opened. The opening scene was actually the closing scene. Oh and I am not giving anything away. It is a known historical fact that Alexander The Great does indeed finally die after winning almost every one of his glorious battles for countless years.
The cinematography was excellent in this film. I enjoyed the camera composition and how the director of photography placed each camera to best capture each epic moment of this movie. The special effects in the action battle scenes was also incredible.
The ancient costumes were also spectacular in this movie. The costume designer did and excellent job a portraying the apparel of the time. This movie had a lot of blood, guts, and gore. I would recommend anyone who has not seen this movie to do so.
If is an awesome tale of an outstanding individual who actually lived in ancient Greece once upon a time.
