Review of Alexander (1996) by Michael W — 11 Jul 2009
Oliver Stone can ruin some good ideas but made a good film out of Alexander. Alexander was well directed where one gains the feel of the times and the people. The portrayal of characters was excellently acted by such greats as Farrell, Jolie, Kilmer, Leto, Hopkins etc.
Alexander goes deep into the philosophy of the Greek/Macedonian's of what is a good man? What is a higher culture? etc. The movie excellently told the story of Alexander's rise, great victory over Persia, the compromise with Persia, and his death.
For a 2 hour and 55 minutes movie Alexander is watchable. A difficult task!. I give Alexander 3 out of 5 stars.
