Review of Alex Cross (2012) by Lee J — 19 May 2013
Incredibly forgettable. The movie goes to great lengths to make Cross seem like the most brilliantly observant person ever who's only now getting a crack at the FBI after having worked in Detroit for this entire career, working side beside with his childhood best friend who also managed to become a cop and get saddled with the Genius. Tyler Perry is more suited to playing a smooth-talking player rather than an uber-talented detective who becomes "enraged" and unstoppable versus the thinnest serial killer ever (Matthew Fox; see Party of Five and Lost for more of Fox being an action star). Fox manages to toy with a career underground MMA fighter, yet Perry, who'd more likely be cast as the Staypuft Marshmallow man in the upcoming Ghostbusters III, takes him out with only one good arm.
Great movie. The more I think about it, the less I liked it. I started the review with 2 stars but changed my mind . . . now.
