Review of Albert Nobbs (2011) by Skye B — 26 Sep 2012
A rather boring attempt, not due to lack of controversial subject matter, but rather due to the lack of intensity or a real premise, or even actual risk. Visually it could have been filmed a lot more..
. delicious, which could have saved the failing script and empty story. I am a Close fan, and I wish I could see her every day in a new role, but this is certainly not her best. Even though convincing, she also seems to block out any human emotion one could possibly have and thereby excludes the audience from the character, leaving one to wonder if there's any compassion for the character to be found.
A highly non-engaging film, with loose ends and (unfortunately) a cast that deserves better. Actually, coming to think of it - a brave story that deserves better telling! Damnit. Disappointing.
