Review of Aladdin (2019) by Erumbitaro — 06 Jun 2019

The Movie Was pretty good. Most of the actors were fine and despite what I had feared Will Smith is an amazing genie and probably the best actor in the entire movie. it recreates jokes and creates new ones giving you a joy an old Disney was.

while most of the new songs were a hit and miss it was a blast listening to recreations of the original songs. My only 2 complaints are 1). actor casted as Jafar. Not saying he's a bad actor but I believe he would would fit as any other character but personally he didn't feel like a Jafar.

Jafar in the original is man known for his hypnotic charm as he lures you in, he was a man you wouldn't trust but at the same time you want to hear him out. The actor whole personality as Jafar was trying to be evil and massively lacked that hypnotic charm which makes a Jafar Character not Jafar at all.

i'm sure the actor will star in a big role and be famous for that but any character would've been better than casting him has the serpent sorcerer we love. my second complaint is all the cultures they tried to serve on one main dish.

This is Arabia not Punjabi, Desi, Persian, Egyptian, ect ect. It felt like they were trying to cater to a bunch of different cultures which ruined the cultural fun and made everything,including the dancing, feel very very stereotypical.

I think the movie would've been more fun culturally if it focused on Arabian culture, some of Egyptian culture, And Some of India culture (i say this as Jasmines mother is an Indian Kingdom if you were to Google it) and would be a fun things people would learn about the culture as a whole.

The cultural thing I point out however is because I am Islamic and I say this as it would be awesome for people to see true Arabian culture rather than the stereotypical culture most of the world sees in the south Asian, north east Africa it thinks of.

Overall I did enjoy Aladdin other than the culture.
